Disappointing  - posted by Cin 04-24-2007 19:30
I hate to be the bearer of bad news here...but...I was extremely disappointed with Odd Thomas after all the rave reviews. While Odd was an interesting character, the story was weak. Koontz could have made it much more suspenseful and creepy, to match the plot. Instead it made a bad mix like a Scream movie. In my opinion, comedy and horror do not mix. This book felt a little like Life Expectancy, also by Koontz, with the dark and disturbing subject matter kept light by the characters' mood and downtoearthedness. So, from me, this book only earns a mediocre rating.

This book was startling to say the least. I kept going back to reread things when it became apparent to me that something more was going on than I had first thought. The banter between the characters was refreshing and funny. The end totally caught me off guard. I wasn't sure how I felt about it and am still deciding if I will be able to read another Odd book. Definitaly not your typical book.

This is my favorite Koontz book, so far. I really like the main character, Odd Thomas. He is something of a simpleton, but also very complex. I am amazed at how Koontz could manage to have this character be consistant through the whole book. It is a really good example of making complex characters.
