Good, but I liked others better  - posted by Rocky Keele 03-05-2007 21:18
A different take on the vampire story. I've read 5 or 6 of this series now, and I have to disagree with Cinny. I think book 2 (The Vampire Lestat) and book 8? (Blood and Gold about the vampire Marius) are quite good and better than Interview.

Ahh....Louis  - posted by Cin 12-26-2006 21:02
I read this book my first year of college. Maybe I was going through that soul searching time of life and that's why this novel really appealed to me, but I have loved it just as much every time I've read it since. Although it's a vampire story, it's a human story. It is heartwrenching, and romantic, and yes... gory. I was suprised to hear that some people couldn't get through this book because it was graphic, because to me, the story was too intriguing to put the book down. Louis constantly struggles with guilt, not only for taking human life to sustain his own, but with guilt for being weak, for being vulnerable, for making mistakes. I think we all struggle with these things, and Anne Rice beautifully wrote about these struggles, making them sound almost romantic. The rest of the Vampire Chronicles aren't worth the paper they are written on, but this first novel, is definately worth your time.

I had a really hard time getting through this one. It was pretty boring. I did like the characters though.
