Great  - posted by Kale 10-18-2007 23:14
These are books that I really got into - down the point that I kept checking myself to see if I was hurt. I felt like Donaldson took away too much from the main character in the Second Chronicles, so I liked the First Chronicles a lot more.

This series was one of the first fantasy books I had read. I was new to the genre and really gobbled these up. One of my favorite parts was when they were sinking in the tarmud out in the plains and they got sucked down into an underground tunnel and escaped!! Such an odd, fantastic, unthought of solution was cool! I also really liked Vain. I did get a bit weary of Thomas Covenant refusing to be the hero as Joye mentioned. I still need to read the last one....maybe I will just start the series over again!

The ultimate unbeliever  - posted by Rocky Keele 12-20-2006 21:15
I read these again last summer, one a week for six weeks. Never got bored for one day. The first book is a bit weaker than the rest. Some of the most awesome battles scenes in all of fantasy writing.

Good except the first one  - posted by Rusty 12-19-2006 16:51
Okay, so Lord Foul's Bane wasn't too bad, but it was the weakest link in the series. There were some really cool ideas and images in these books though! Yeah go Sunbane!

I have really enjoyed these books. The first one is a little hard to get into because the protagnist is such a jerk. But his reluctance to be a "hero" is the whole story. These books were very visual to me and I could "see" what Donaldson was talking about as I read. His descriptions of places and events is great! I've read these twice and would read them again. Some of the best!
