1984 explores individual rights and privacy. Orwell's vision of a future world in 1984 is usually the focus of debate, but the reason that I find it amazing is that the last half of the book brings up a sheer sense of hopelessness. It is absolutely agonizing. These are emotions that a novel rarely stirs up.
