About whitehole.net

Welcome to whitehole.net,

The goal of whitehole.net is to motivate authors (and potential authors) to write their stories. If you are the kind of person who likes to write, and wants to write, but never seems to get anything written then whitehole.net is for you! Once you sign up, we start by sending you a regular reminder email which gives some tips for writing, reminds you of the looming deadline, lets you know what is happening on our website and generally tries to motivate you to do what you want to do – write! We then let you know about the deadline for current submissions – this gives you a definite time frame to finish your story. Once you submit your story we share it with others – so you know your story will be read and enjoyed by other people with the same goals. Finally, we offer contests with (small) awards as a final way to motivate you to write. These awards are handed out by selected judges, or by allowing the readers to choose their favorite story. Hopefully this four pronged approach to motivation will help you start doing what you want to do.

You are free to write whatever you like, and we encourage you to do so. Most of the tips, deadlines and contests are aimed at helping you write short stories - 10,000 words or less. Once you have put the final touches on your masterpiece then send it in, and when the deadline arrives we will share your story with everyone else. We encourage you to read other authors' stories and respond to them – giving praise (very encouraging!) and also pointing out suggestions for improvement.

Whitehole.net is not a hardcore workshop (see links for some workshop suggestions), but is first and foremost a place to help you start (and keep) writing. If this sounds like something that might benefit you then sign up, introduce yourself, and start writing!

Good luck,
-Rusty
